The History and Folklore of the Lapis Stone!

The Lapis stone was mined mainly in Afghanistan by the ancient Egyptian, Roman and Greek societies dating back more than 6,000 years and it was highly prized for it's intense blue color.

Deposits of Lapis have since been found in Siberia, Angola, Pakistan, Canada and the United States, among other countries.

It is believed that powdered Lapis was used by Cleopatra as eye shadow and it was a favorite stone for amulets, ornaments and jewelry.

This December birthstone is actually not a mineral but a rock and in Folklore it was believed to heighten awareness, creativity and even ESP!

Whether you believe in the folklore or not, the intense blue lapis stone, when set in fine shiny silver is truly something to behold!
