The History and Folklore of Jasper!

Jasper comes in more unique varieties than just about any other stone available. Most commonly considered to be red, jasper can come in many colors, although the color is rarely uniform and most forms of jasper are usually multicolored, spotted or even striped!

For these reasons, there are many varieties of jasper including, Poppy Jasper, Picasso Jasper, Picture Jasper, Blue Jasper, Peach Jasper, Purple Jasper, White Jasper,

Dalmation Jasper, Ocean Jasper, Flower Jasper and Imperial Jasper, to name just a few!

Because of it's many varieties, the folklore of Jasper is vast.

It was thought to protect it's wearer from spider and snake bites, and to even heal snake bites by drawing out the venom from a wound.

In medieval times it was thought to cure insanity, drive away evil spirits and cure anyone possessed by the devil.

Red Jasper in particular was often worn for protection and many forms of Jasper were thought to assist it's wearer in overcoming jealousy as well as giving one courage and wisdom!

In many native American tribes Jasper was called the great rain bringer and it was used in ceremonies to bring forth rain.

As the October birthstone, Jasper is even thought to give those who wear it inner peace and added strength.

A remarkable history revolves around this unique stone, with every piece having it's own unusual color, shape and variation, making it a great medium for jewelry, since every jewelry piece that incorporates the unusual Jasper stone will invariably be a one of a kind jewelry design!
