The Alluring Larimar Stone!

The Larimar stone is a rare blue variety of pectolite with a serene blue color
that results from the substitution of cobalt for calcium in the stone.

The color varies from white and light-blue to green-blue and deep blue or
''volcanic blue.'' With swirling bands of white, larimar mimics the wave crests
of crystal blue Caribbean waters.

This dreamy, mesmerizing gemstone is known as the ''Caribbean gemstone'' since
it is only mined in the Dominican Republic and as the "Atlantis stone" because
of the belief by some that the Dominican Republic now stands where the legendary
City of Atlantis fell.

Discovered in 1916, this unique stone wasn't mined until decades later in 1974
and all known deposits of larimar come from only one mine on earth, a remote,
mountainous location in the Dominican province of Barahonas where locals still
mine the stone from narrow crevices using primitive hand tools.
